Fabrication of Flame-Retardant Resin Containing Ceramic Additives
In this study, hybrid resins were formulated by blending ceramic resin with acrylic resin or silane-based additives to improve their flame-retardant properties. The resins were applied to substrates and thermally cured at 230 °C for 15 minutes. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was conducted to assess thermal stability before and after curing. In all cases, cured resins exhibited greater thermal stability than their uncured forms. Fame retardancy was evaluated by exposing the cured samples to direct torch flame and recording the surface ignition time. The ceramic-acrylic hybrid resins showed reduced flame-retardant performance compared to the neat ceramic resin. In contrast, the addition of silane compounds enhanced the flame resistance, with the formulation containing 5 wt% epoxy silane exhibiting the longest surface ignition time of 10.36 seconds. These findings indicate that epoxy silane is an effective additive for improving the flame retardancy of ceramic-based resins.
