AI Enhanced Education: Impacts on Students Engagement and Learning Outcomes in Tourism & Hospitality Education

The study explored the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within tourism and hospitality education, employing the learning process and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as a guiding framework. Using a quantitative research approach, data was collected from 350 students in both private and public universities, examining students engagement with AI tools in enhancing academic learning flexibility, and skill acquisition. Results indicate that students hold generally positive perceptions of AI’s role in supporting their academic tasks, particularly in optimizing learning efficiency, facilitating virtual interactions, and promoting digital literacy. Despite these benefits, students express moderate concerns about AI’s applicability to real-world scenarios, suggesting the need for curriculum adjustments to incorporate practical applications of AI. The findings contribute to ongoing discussions about AI’s transformative role in higher education, providing insights for policymakers and educators aiming to leverage AI in support of SDG 4.
