A 1-Bit Reconfigurable Reflective Metasurface for Sub-6 GHz Applications
This paper presents a simple reflective metasurface design that can dynamically control the direction of reflected beams. Beam steering is performed by varying phase states across the aperture of the metasurface. A single PIN diode is used in each unit cell (1-bit coding) to change the phase states between 0° and 180°. An $8 \times 8$ array is formed with the designed unit cell and switching states of PIN diodes are updated with a suitable coding pattern calculated using the Array Factor method. The simulation result shows that the designed reconfigurable reflective metasurface can steer the reflected beams up to ± 45°. The proposed design can be used for sub-6 GHz applications centered at 5.8 GHz.
