Internet of Things to Steer Point-of-Care Testing of Vital Sign Monitering
This research proposes a novel use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology for noninvasive patient vital sign monitoring. The measurement of parameters including oxygen saturation, heart rate, temperature, and Electrocardiogram (ECG) has traditionally been done using heavy-duty patient monitors. On the other hand, in the presented work, the portable device was developed which contains different sensors which are interfaced with a Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller development board to remotely sense these vital signs via the IoT. With this configuration, real-time data that is necessary for remote patient monitoring can be collected and easily accessed on portable devices. Our strategy enables timely point-of-care (PoC) diagnosis and therapy, hence reducing the risk of future health difficulties, by giving healthcare professionals quick access to vital patient data, such as important indicators of the patient’s medical history and real-time changes in the patient’s condition.
