Implementing HVDC Line Modeling in MOST Simulation Environment for Multi-period Optimal Power Flow

This paper proposes an approach to integrate HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) line models in the open access tool MOST. MOST is an extension of the well-known Matpower simulation environment, and it can solve multiperiod linearized optimal power flow problems. This feature is very important nowadays since the ever-growing penetration of non-programmable renewable energy sources together with energy storage devices in the worldwide power systems makes it necessary to solve multi-period power flow simulation to analyze some particular scenarios. The current version of MOST does not allow considering HVDC connection in its library; for this reason, this paper proposes an approach to easily consider HVDC line in the MOST environment. This is intended as a contribution to help improve and disseminate this powerful open access simulation tool.
