DDOS Attack Identification Using Machine Learning Techniques
Machine Learning is a potent weapon against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assaults, which overload networks by taking advantage of flaws. It analyzes data, looks for questionable trends, and adjusts to changing attack tactics using algorithms. ML provides intelligent and dynamic solutions, in contrast to classical defenses. This adaptability facilitates the identification and effective mitigation of novel DDoS attack types. As DDoS techniques evolve, machine learning ensures powerful and effective network defense. Machine learning provides a potential avenue for quick detection and response, but traditional security solutions frequently fail to protect against these attacks. The exploration of various methodologies, encompassing supervised, unsupervised, and hybrid techniques, proves indispensable in the quest to uncover and thwart DDoS attacks. Neural models and supervised approaches such as Random Forest, linear models such as Support Vector Machine and Perceptron, and ensembling algorithms reveal a significant difference between genuine and malicious network data. Feature engineering plays a pivotal role by extracting relevant attributes from network data, facilitating algorithms in detecting deviations from expected traffic patterns. Long Short-Term Memory and Multi-Layer Perceptron’s are two examples of deep learning techniques that are excellent at identifying minute attack patterns that can evade conventional defences. Despite problems such as unbalanced data and the ever-changing nature of attack techniques, machine learning's flexibility and pattern detection skills enable proactive cybersecurity solutions against DDoS attacks.
