Performance Studies of Inter-Satellite Optical Wireless Communication Links Using PPM
Inter-Satellite Optical Wireless Communication (IsOWC) is a promising technology for high-speed data transmission between satellites. This research focuses on establishing an IsOWC link between Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites using Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) sequence coding in Optisystem software. The optical wireless channel serves as the transmission medium, ensuring efficient and secure data exchange. To analyse signal enhancement, two key techniques: Single Input Single Output (SISO) and $4 \times 4$ Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) scheme are employed. The PPM sequence is generated using Return-to-Zero (RZ) and Non-Return-to-Zero (NRZ) pulse generators, allowing a comparative evaluation of the $\mathbf{Q}$-factor for both SISO and $\mathbf{4 x 4}$ WDM systems. Additionally, critical system parameters, including pointing error, transmitter aperture diameter, and receiver aperture diameter, are optimized to achieve an optimal Q-factor. This study aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of intersatellite communication by adopting systematically investigating the parameters using the sweep iteration in Optisystem. The findings contribute to the development of advanced IsOWC systems, paving the way for improved data transmission capabilities in space communication networks.
