Comprehensive Study of Implementation Strategies and Simulation Tools for Packet Classification

In today's network security and traffic management, packet classification is essential for routing, Quality of Service (QoS), and threat reduction. Achieving excellent performance and scalability in the face of rapidly increasing network speed and complexity requires careful selection of implementation methodologies and simulation tools. The merits and disadvantages of various implementation strategies, such as hardware, software, and hybrid techniques, are thoroughly examined in this paper. The suitability of popular simulation tools like NS2, NS-3, OMNeT++, OPNET, QualNet and NetSim for modeling and analyzing packet classification approaches is also assessed. To aid academics and network experts in creating and implementing efficient packet classification systems for various networking contexts, the results provide a thorough comparison.
