Enhanced GIFT Encryption with Chaotic Maps for Secure Data Transmission in LoRa-Based IoT Devices

Recent years, LoRa-based IoT edge devices are growing in popularity due to their long-range communication capabilities and low power consumption. However, LoRa-based IoT devices often lack builtin encryption function, making secure data transmission is a critical challenge. The standard lightweight GIFT encryption algorithm is enhanced using chaotic map based secret key generator. A nonlinear weighted sum approach is proposed to improve the randomness of combined chaotic map-based secret key generator. This approach is computationally efficient with increased security, ensuring robust and lightweight data protection for LoRa-based smart devices secure data transmission. The efficiency of our proposed system was validated using NIST randomness tests, correlation analysis and execution time in various IoT-based embedded hardware platforms. The experimental results show that our proposed system passes all NIST randomness tests and takes low execution time.
