Design and Implementation of a Smart Medicine Reminder Kit for Elderly Care
This paper addresses the prevalent issue of medication challenges, particularly among elderly individuals, where improper adherence to prescribed medication regimens can lead to severe health complications. It presents the design and implementation of a Smart Medicine Reminder Kit aimed at enhancing medication compliance. The system integrates an ESP32 microcontroller and a SIM900A GSM module to deliver phone call reminders with pre-recorded messages. Coupled with a Real-Time Clock (RTC) module for accurate scheduling, the system also includes visual indicators through LEDs and auditory notifications from a buzzer, ensuring timely medication guidance. A mobile application enables caregivers to easily manage and input medication schedules, providing a user-friendly experience. This paper surveys the hardware and software components of the system, highlighting the dual alert system (audio and visual) designed to assist individuals with varying sensory impairments. The effectiveness of the solution is evaluated through functional testing, reliability analysis, and user acceptance, demonstrating its potential to improve medication adherence, promote better health outcomes, and reduce healthcare risks.
