Millimeter Wave FMCW MIMO Radar for Remote Vital Sign Monitoring: Experimental Verification Using Empirical Wavelets and MUSIC Algorithm

Human vital sign monitoring is an important aspect of human health and wellness. In recent times, radar systems have found increased application in the domain because of its non-contact nature. In this study, a millimeter wave radar is used for human target range measurement and heart rate and breathing rate estimation. For this purpose, a multilevel combination algorithm is proposed and verified using experimental data. The study also compares the usefulness of the time-frequency estimation method involving Empirical wavelets vis-á-vis the eigenspace analysis method of multiple signal classification. The MIMO property of the radar is utilized for increasing the accuracy of the estimation method.
