Epidemiology and non-specific prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections

The presented article is devoted to the study of the attitude of 5th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine of the Northern State Medical University of Arkhangelsk to the issues of epidemiology and non-specific prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections. These diseases remain an urgent public health problem not only in the Arkhangelsk region, but also in the Russian Federation as a whole. Given the key role of medical professionals in combating the spread of these infections, especially in the context of non-specific prevention measures, effectiveness also largely depends on the understanding and application of knowledge in this area by future medical professionals. The study aims to assess the relationship between students’ knowledge of the epidemiology of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, their attitude to these diseases and commitment to the use of preventive measures, as well as to analyze the most frequently visited places by students where they can become infected. The purpose of the work: To study the attitude of 5th year students of the Faculty of Medicine of Arkhangelsk State Medical University to the epidemiology and non-specific prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, as well as to identify their awareness and level of knowledge in this field. Materials and methods: From March to April 2025, we conducted an online electronic survey among students of the Northern State Medical University using the Google platform. The study involved 5th year students of the Faculty of Medicine. The questionnaire includes questions regarding the socio-demographic data of the participants, epidemiology, the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections over the past year, and the implementation of non-specific prevention. Statistical data analysis was performed using the Microsoft Excel 2010 application software package. All data is presented in the form of extensive indicators. Results: The results showed that despite having basic knowledge and commitment to various types of non-specific prevention methods, most of the respondents were ill and did not consult a general practitioner. These studies can serve as a basis for the development of educational programs aimed at forming a more responsible attitude among students towards the prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections.
