Aportes de la docencia al sentido de vida de los profesores en Colombia

Teaching not only impacts on the lives of students but also leaves a significant mark on the teacher. However, there are few studies on this subject; hence, the interest in understanding the meanings of professional experiences and how they give teachers meaning in life arises. A qualitative approach was developed using a phenomenological design. Data were collected through a documentary review of 20 narratives, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires with 88 practicing teachers at different educational levels in Colombia. Data analysis was conducted through a hermeneutic approach, mediated by data triangulation. The findings reflected that the work of teachers directly impacts the meaning and significance of personal lives, because in the presence of students, teachers fully dedicate themselves, become qualified, seek solutions, develop their creativity, make sacrifices, are patient, demanding, and empathy in their daily work.
