FORMING THE STRUCTURE OF A FLORAL STILL LIFE IMAGE: COLOR IN COMPOSITION
The article addresses the issue of creating the structure of a floral still life image for artistic naturalistic depiction, focusing on the color solution within the composition. Variants of the author’s interpretation of the term “image structure” in both its narrow and broad sense are proposed. The results of the study investigating the specific features of the color structure in floral compositions, most often evaluated by respondents as “appealing” or “beautiful” are presented. The purpose of the study is to identify the common schemes of color solutions inherent in “liked” models, which can serve as a basis for creating new artistic images that are more likely to receive positive feedback from the target audience. The work describes the research algorithm and provides the initial part of the material analysis. Using the chi-square criterion, it was revealed that floral compositions containing one to five shades in their structure are equally preferred; bouquets with more complex structures of six to eight shades are significantly less preferred. Based on the study data, an approximate formula for calculating the optimal number of shades in a composition is proposed and justified: “x=3±2”. The results of the research contribute to the theoretical body of knowledge about color and composition and help recognise several issues in art and art education. The materials can be used in the teaching of visual arts and in the professional practice of artists and designers.
