PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATIONS OF BIOART

The article examines a trend in contemporary art, in which artists work in scientific laboratories to create works of art using living organisms. The trend is called bioart. This sometimes provocative art touches on various aspects of reality and raises, among other things, ethical issues. Bioart brings science and art closer together, making some scientific processes public. Bioart artists comment on their work, actively give interviews and engage with the theoretical aspects of art. The author draws a parallel between some concepts of this art and the philosophical ideas of postmodernism and concludes that bioart intersects with some of them. The art often plays with and combines various forms of text — verbal, visual, sound, creating synesthetic perceptions, actively using modern technologies and the possibilities of the Internet. Bioart is often demonstrated in the form of a performance, involving the viewer in the process of representation. Touching on various aspects of the viewer’s reaction, pushing the boundaries of art, combining ethics and aesthetics, scientific technologies and artistic techniques, bioart provokes the recipient to a deeper understanding of ontological processes.
