Quantitative Analysis of the Effect of Energy Policy on Growth of Rural Entrepreneurs in Nigeria

Abstract Recent growth of rural entrepreneurs in Nigeria is traced to accessibility, availability and utilisation of renewable energies in addition to the conventional electricity supply. To boost energy supply to rural businesses, Nigerian government has formulated and implemented several policies in the energy sector. Arising therefrom, this study quantitatively investigates the effect of energy policies on growth of rural entrepreneurs in Nigeria. It explicitly adopts a deductive approach, positivist philosophy, and quantitative method to diagnose the influence of sustainable energy supply on growth of rural entrepreneurs in Nigeria. This study builds on 75 structured questionnaires to collect primary data from 75 randomly selected rural energy entrepreneurs in five (5) communities in Abuja Nigeria. However, simple random sampling and descriptive design are used to draw samples that can represent a broader category of rural entrepreneurs in each study location in Abuja. It aptly uses SPSS Software Version 26 to obtain statistical results and findings that capture the primary effect of energy policies on growth and profitability of rural entrepreneurs in local areas of Abuja in Nigeria. This study concludes that energy policies must be geared towards ease of doing business for rural entrepreneurs in Nigeria. It specifically recommends some policy measures to foster sustainable energy distribution for growth of rural entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
