Research Progress on Treatment of Obesity with Traditional Chinese Medicine

In recent years, the prevalence of overweight and obese populations in China has shown a continuous upward trend. As an independent disease in chronic diseases and an important pathogenic factor for multiple chronic diseases, obesity has become a major public health issue in China. Currently, western medical treatments for obesity mainly include diet control, exercise control, drug therapy, and surgical treatment, which can reduce patients’ body weight to a certain extent, but cannot cure obesity and carry the risk of side effects. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapies for preventing and treating obesity have become the focus of attention and research in recent years due to their definite curative effects and fewer toxic and side effects. Based on the current treatment status of obesity, this paper summarizes the recent research on TCM treatment of obesity, aiming to provide references for its clinical treatment and research.
