The Study of Tidal Phenomenon in the Seas and the Factors Effecting it
Tide is a phenomenon that occurs due to the gravitational pull of the moon on the surface of the oceans and seas. This force causes the daily movement and displacement of the water surface. Since the waters of the oceans are more flexible due to their fluid and soft nature compared to the land, this effect is more observed in them. The moon's gravitational force pulls the water towards itself and creates a bulge on its surface, called the tide. Conversely, in the area where the moon's gravitational force has less effect on the seas, the waters recede, and this phenomenon is called the ebb. The main issue is that the moon's gravity is one-sixth of the Earth's gravity; how can the moon have a greater effect on the waters and create tides, and why does this phenomenon occur is considered an important research question. This research aims to examine how tides occur and the factors effecting them. The research method is descriptive, using library studies and scientific articles. The research findings indicate that the moon's gravity is the main reason for tides, and the sun also plays a role in creating tides. However, due to its great distance from the Earth, its effect is less than the moon.
