Immigrant rights for teenagers :contributions of a scientific initiation to intercultural education

Introduction: Although immigration is a common phenomenon in the contemporary world, its causes are quite varied, with more than 122.6 million people currently living in the world having been forcibly displaced by conflicts, persecution, and rights violations (UNHCR, 2024). Objective: To report on awareness-raising actions on the rights of migrants and refugees for high school students based on a junior scientific initiation (IC-Jr) on these topics. Method: The methodological design of the project consisted of a qualitative participatory research divided into three phases, with a view to investigating and improving subjective meanings attributed by two students to the rights of immigrants, based on their local realities. Results: In the first phase, the IC-Jr students and scholarship holders developed four memory maps of habitual places, which involved them more directly in the two subsequent phases of the research, awareness-raising and scientific initiation on the theme of migration. Conclusion: The reports indicate success in the initiative in achieving its initial objectives, contributing not only to student education, but also to the construction of a more plural society through the promotion of human rights and intercultural education.
