Correlation between Calcaneal Position and Gastrocnemius Extensibility Among Younger Females

Context: The foot is vital for movement, as it supports weight-bearing activities. Subtalar position is key for foot and ankle function, absorbing impact and gastrocnemius tension. Tight gastrocnemius-soleus muscles often cause ankle imbalance, especially in females with a higher Q angle. Foot posture affects performance, with pronation or supination altering lower extremity biomechanics and increasing injury risk due to poor postural stability. Aims: This study aimed to explore the correlation between calcaneal position and gastrocnemius extensibility in younger females. Subjects and Methods: A purposive sampling method was used to conduct a cross-sectional study involving female students from Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy in Mangalore. Statistical Analysis Used: Correlation was found using Karl Pearson’s coefficient of correlation with P < 0.05. Results: There is a weak negative correlation between calcaneal position and gastrocnemius extensibility among younger females. Conclusions: This study concluded that there is a weak negative correlation between calcaneal position and gastrocnemius extensibility among younger females.
