Multipath Exploitation Adaptive Beamforming Based on Spatial Smooth and Covariance Matrix Reconstruction

This work proposes a multipath exploitation adaptive beamforming using a multipath signal recognition technique. First, the spatial smooth technique is used to estimate the direction of arrival (DOA) and power of incoming signals in multipath environment. Then, to separate siganl from different direction, the beamformer based on covariance matrix reconstruction is used for extracting each signal by taking the remaining signal as interference. To further utilize multipath, the generalized correlation coefficients of the desired signal and signals from other directions are then used in order to identify multipath signals from interference. After signal identification, the multipath signal is merged with the direct signal for reception while suppressing interference and noise. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposal may improve the output signal-interference-noise ratio (SINR) by efficiently suppressing the interference and exploiting the multipath.
