A 40V-Output-Range Source Driver IC with 250MHz Mini-LVDS Receivers For Flexible Display Applications (α-Si TFT)

Due to the limited output range of source driver chips, most products on the market rely on external boosts to enhance the response rate of amorphous silicon transistors (α-Si TFT) and improve display brightness. This approach significantly increases power consumption, area, and cost. To achieve a highly integrated high-voltage source driver chip, this paper presents an ultra-high-voltage 6-bit source driver designed for amorphous silicon flexible displays, fabricated using the SMIC 180nm BCDE high-voltage process. The proposed source driver incorporates 4-bit DAC embedded operational amplifiers, mini-LVDS receiver and high voltage amplifier with an output range of ±20 V. Circuit results demonstrate that the key circuits function correctly under an equivalent panel load of a 5 kΩ resistor and 75 pF capacitance, achieving a grayscale voltage build-up time of less than 5 μs and a grayscale voltage accuracy within 0.21 LSB, thereby satisfying the design specifications of the system.
