Implementation of a Host Protocol Layer Based on USB 3.0 SuperSpeed
This paper proposes a host protocol layer architecture based on the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed protocol (SSPTL), focusing on addressing reliability, real-time performance, and compatibility challenges in SuperSpeed data transmission. The article elaborates on the core modular architecture of the protocol layer, including the SuperSpeed Media Access Control (SSMAC) layer for physical layer interaction, the protocol conversion modules (PXT/PXR), the Non-Data Transaction Processing (NDTP) module for non-data transactions, and state machine models for managing input (HTXP) and output (HRXP) transactions. By designing the HTXP _FSM, HTXP _TXPKT_FSM, and HRXP _ FSM state machines, adaptive flow control, data integrity assurance, and error recovery mechanisms are implemented to ensure efficient bulk, interrupt, isochronous, and control transfers. Experimental validation using a UVM testbench constructed with System V erilog successfully demonstrated effective transmission across all four transfer types. This design provides a robust, SuperSpeed communication solution for bandwidth-intensive USB devices, such as video surveillance systems and Blu-ray drives.
