Recent Progress in Rhodium‐Catalyzed Multicomponent Reactions: Strategies for Efficient C─C and C─Heteroatom Bond Formation

Abstract Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) involve the simultaneous reaction of three or more substrates to form a single product. These reactions are often atom‐economical and environmentally friendly, making them valuable for synthesizing bio‐relevant compounds in medicinal and industrial fields. Metal‐catalyzed MCRs, particularly those involving transition metals, have gained prominence due to their efficiency, high atom economy, energy savings, and high yields. Transition metal catalysts facilitate the formation of both carbon─carbon (C─C) and carbon─heteroatom (C─X) bonds, broadening the scope of MCR applications. Among these catalysts, rhodium‐based (Rh) catalysts are notable for their versatility and effectiveness. Due to this, it can be used as a catalytic converter. This metal is effective in reducing harmful pollutants like NO x , which are emitted from vehicles. They excel in mediating various bond transformations and C─H activation processes, leading to the synthesis of highly functionalized MCR adducts. This review focuses on recent advancements in Rh‐catalyzed MCRs, summarizing literature from 2020 to 2025.
