PORTS’ CONTRIBUTION TO THE FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC SECURITY OF LOGISTICS SYSTEMS

This paper examines the role of port activities and the development of port infrastructure in strengthening financial and economic security through the integration into transport and logistics systems. The discussion focuses on identifying the critical functions of modern ports, such as enhancing water transport connectivity, developing multimodal logistics hubs, and ensuring infrastructure resilience. Using Ukraine as a case study, this research highlights the transformation of ports into strategic nodes within global logistics chains under current geopolitical and economic challenges. The research methodology is based on the systemic analysis of scientific literature, synthesis of global best practices, and evaluation of strategic policy documents from international organizations. Comparative analytical methods and logical-structural analysis are used to study the impact of infrastructural modernization, digitalization, and institutional reforms on port operations and their integration into multimodal transport and logistics systems. The findings demonstrate that port infrastructure development, digitalization of port activities, and the enhancement of water transport capabilities directly contribute to the resilience and competitiveness of logistics chains. Effective infrastructure integration — including coordinated sea, rail, and road connections — strengthens national economic security and promotes regional economic growth. Furthermore, the creation of logistics clusters around ports and the adoption of advanced information systems significantly enhance the flexibility and reliability of supply chains. The study confirms that the modernization of port infrastructure, expansion of water transport capacities, and integration into advanced transport and logistics systems are key strategic factors for ensuring financial and economic security. A comprehensive approach combining infrastructure development, digitalization, and institutional support is necessary to strengthen the resilience of national economies and accelerate their integration into global trade networks. The results provide theoretical and practical insights for policymakers, port authorities, and logistics industry stakeholders aiming to develop sustainable and competitive port ecosystems.
