SDC4: A Promising Biomarker for HNSC Diagnosis and Therapeutic Targeting
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) is a highly invasive malignant tumor with high mortality and adverse clinical outcomes. Despite the continuous improvement of treatment methods, the prognosis of advanced HNSC is still not ideal, especially when distant metastasis occurs. Syndecan-4 (SDC4), a transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan, plays a role in various cancers due to its involvement in cell migration, intracellular signaling, and tumor microenvironment (TME) regulation. However, its exact function and regulatory mechanism in HNSCs are not yet clear. This study evaluated the expression pattern, prognostic relevance, and potential impact on the HNSC microenvironment of SDC4 through comprehensive bioinformatics analysis. The results showed that SDC4 was significantly upregulated in HNSC and closely associated with adverse clinical outcomes. Mechanistically, SDC4 may promote tumor progression by activating key oncogenic pathways and reshaping the TME immune environment. These findings suggest that SDC4 can serve as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for HNSC, providing new ideas for precision tumor treatment.
