Borehole-Based Seismic Attenuation Analysis in Carbonate Reservoirs
Summary The high sensitivity of seismic attenuation to the physical properties of geological media makes it of great interest for applications such as hydrocarbon exploration and seismic hazards assessment. This study aims to estimate seismic attenuation in carbonate-dominated reservoirs from multiple oilfields in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Both conventional and in-house developed techniques were applied to data acquired at multiple frequencies to evaluate the frequency dependence of the quality factor Q1 and gain insights into the dominant attenuation mechanisms. The study also includes an anisotropy analysis of Q1 to obtain fracture orientation.
