Assessment and Interpretation of Bone Turnover Markers for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis
Bone turnover markers have gained increasing attention as valuable supplementary tools for the diagnosis and clinical management of osteoporosis. Unlike bone mineral density, which provides a static measure of bone mass, bone turnover markers offer dynamic information regarding the ongoing processes of bone remodeling, including those related to both bone formation and bone resorption. By reflecting the metabolic activity of bone tissue in real time, these biochemical markers complement traditional imaging-based assessments and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of skeletal health. This article aimed to evaluate the clinical applications and interpretive challenges related to the use of bone turnover markers in osteoporosis care.
