Comparative Effectiveness of Budesonide vs 0.9% Saline Nasal Irrigation in Postendoscopic Sinus Surgery Recovery: An Evaluation Using SNOT-22 and Lund–Kennedy Scores
Specific ObjectivesThe objective of this study is to compare the efficacy of normal saline and budesonide nasal irrigation in patients undergoing ESS: IntroductIon BackgroundEndoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) is a widely used surgical approach for treating various nasal conditions.Postoperative care typically includes nasal irrigation with normal saline and the use of steroid nasal sprays to clear clotted blood and crusts from dry secretions. While some studies have explored the adjunctive role of budesonide in nasal irrigation, direct comparisons with normal saline-particularly in the Indian population-remain limited. In this study, we aim to compare the effectiveness of budesonide nasal irrigation versus 0.9% normal saline in enhancing postoperative recovery in ESS patients. After obtaining informed consent, eligible patients undergoing ESS will be randomly assigned to receive either normal saline or budesonide nasal irrigation as part of their postoperative regimen.Patients will be evaluated through nasal endoscopy at 4, 8, and 12 weeks postsurgery, with assessments performed by the principal investigator using the Lund-Kennedy endoscopic scoring system.Subjective outcomes will be measured using the SNOT-22 questionnaire.
