Effect of Fracture Orientation on Strength of Fractured Rocks Grouted with Nanoparticle-Based Slurry

ABSTRACT: Rock grouting is a widely used technique to enhance the stability and integrity of fractured rock structures by injecting grouts into rock fractures and voids. However, the effect of fracture orientation on the mechanical properties of the grouted rocks is underexplored. This work investigated the influence of fracture orientation on the mechanical behavior of grouted rock samples. A nanomagnetic slurry was used as the grouting agent, and grouted specimens were then subjected to uniaxial compression tests to evaluate their mechanical properties. The results indicated that samples with parallel fractures have a more significant mechanical response compared to the rock samples containing orthogonal fractures. This study provides valuable insights into optimizing grouting techniques and advancing the understanding of the stability of rocks with complex fractures, potentially guiding future research and applications in rock engineering.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Rock grouting is a widely used technique to enhance the stability and integrity of fractured rock structures by injecting grouts into rock fractures and voids. However, the effect of fracture orientation on the mechanical properties of the grouted rocks is underexplored. This work investigated the influence of fracture orientation on the mechanical behavior of grouted rock samples.
