Enhancing Decision-Making in the Búzios Field through Two-Way Coupling: Geomechanical Modeling for Reservoir Exploitation
ABSTRACT: The Búzios Field, located in the Santos Basin, is a prominent offshore pre-salt reservoir with substantial oil production potential, characterized by an impressive 400 m of net pay. Covering 852 km2 at a water depth of 2,000 meters, it is buried beneath 2,000 meters of salt and 1,000 meters of post-salt sediments. To analyze the geomechanical effects of reservoir production, a two-way coupling approach was implemented using GeomecBR, Petrobras' in-house stress analysis software. This method was tested on a synthetic smaller-scale model that retained the field's challenging characteristics and mechanical properties. The results were evaluated against a one-way coupled model, also developed with GeomecBR. This study highlights the potential of improved geomechanical behavior representation in reservoir modeling, comparing both methods in terms of accuracy and computational cost. The findings aim to support safer and more efficient field development strategies, ensuring better management of the reservoir's complex conditions.
