Seismic Monitoring at Utah FORGE
ABSTRACT: The mission of Utah FORGE (FORGE) is to develop technologies that promote the commercialization of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). For seismic monitoring this translates to how best to de-risk the impact from induced earthquakes and to provide information on fracture development in the reservoir. Key parameters needed for these activities are measurements of magnitude and ground motion, microseismic event detection and high precision locations, and an understanding of the seismic response of the reservoir. At Utah FORGE we are testing seismic array configurations, seismic instrumentation, and enhanced seismic processing algorithms. Here, we summarize some of the findings describing the seismic response at Utah FORGE and lessons learned about seismic monitoring of EGS.
