Design of an Adaptive Cruise Controller with Integral Action and Feedforward Compensation

This paper provides a tutorial exposition of design concepts that are applicable to adaptive cruise control. The proposed controller combines integral action and feedforward compensation, for the constant time gap vehicle spacing policy, and requires only on-board sensors. The integral action and feedforward compensation enhance the vehicle platoon's steadystate response and transient response, respectively.

Abstract

This paper provides a tutorial exposition of design concepts that are applicable to adaptive cruise control. The proposed controller combines integral action and feedforward compensation, for the constant time gap vehicle spacing policy, and requires only on-board sensors. The integral action and feedforward compensation enhance the vehicle platoon's steadystate response and transient response, respectively.
