Day-Ahead Economic Dispatch of Large Power Grid Considering Ramping Ability of Multi-Type Power Sources and Callability of Reserve

With the rapid increase in the proportion of new energy installed capacity and its contribution to overall power generation, the net load curve has emerged as a critical reference in the formulation of dispatching strategies. It is essential for the dispatching department to allocate ramp regulation resources within the power grid efficiently, taking into account the characteristics of the net load curve alongside the regulation capabilities of conventional generation units. This approach aims to meet the demand for net load regulation while effectively preserving the reserve capacity of the grid. To address these challenges, this study first enhances unit ramp constraints to minimize the frequency of adjustments required for conventional units. In this context, a utilization index for grid ramp capacity is introduced, reflecting the varied ramp capacities of different units. Next, the influence of the grid on reserve call mechanisms is incorporated into the day-ahead scheduling model. Finally, we propose multi-objective day-ahead robust economic dispatch model, which optimizes for the lowest power generation costs, minimal utilization of regulation resources, and maximized intervals between upper and lower regulation limits of the units. Calculations performed using the IEEE 39-bus system demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed methodology, underscoring its potential implications for improving grid management and operational efficiency.
