Frequency Response Detection Method for Grid Side Winding Faults of Converter Transformers Without Removing Leads

The traditional detection method of converter transformers requires the removal of leads, which brings operational risks, increases labor intensity, and prolongs the test time. In order to improve safety and efficiency, this study proposes a winding deformation frequency response test method that does not require the removal of leads. Using the distributed parameter model of the converter transformer, this paper simulates and compares the results of not removing the leads and removing all the grid side leads at three frequencies <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(200 \text{kHz}, 600 \text{kHz}$</tex>, and 1000 kHz). The results show that the waveform characteristics of the two methods show the highest consistency at the intermediate frequency, verifying the feasibility of the proposed method. This study provides a basis for optimizing the condition monitoring technology of converter transformers, improving maintenance efficiency, and minimizing potential damage.
