An MPCC-Based Adaptive Strategy for Minimizing Losses in EV Traction Systems Under Variable Speed Demands

With increasing focus on energy efficiency and EV demand, optimizing EV traction system efficiency is crucial. This paper examines the impact of different switching frequencies on system-level losses in a traction system with an inverter and Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) across various speeds. An adaptive switching frequency control strategy based on Model Predictive Current Control (MPCC) is proposed, adjusting parameters in real-time to minimize losses and keep torque ripple within limits. Simulations over a standard driving cycle show the proposed method achieves a system efficiency of 91.17%, outperforming standard MPCC (87.69%) and fixed-frequency control at 8 kHz, 5 kHz, and 3 kHz (89.88%, 90.49%, and 85.83%, respectively), demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing efficiency and reducing torque ripple.
