Conducted EMI Signature Analysis and Verification of SiC-Based Three-Level ANPC Inverter System

Power converters in transportation electrification systems have rapidly transitioned from silicon (Si)-based to wide-bandgap (WBG)-based technologies, enabling faster switching speeds, higher switching frequencies, and increased power density. Nonetheless, this progression has also ushered in heightened levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI). In this paper, a 1-MVA SiC-based three-level active neutral point clamped (ANPC) inverter system for electric aircraft propulsion applications is employed as a case study. Detailed parasitic parameter extraction was conducted on the system, leading to the development of a PSIM simulation model. Validation through both experiment and simulation under identical operating conditions affirmed the model's efficacy. Subsequent comparative simulations were carried out to delve deeper into the main factors of low-frequency and high-frequency conducted EMI emissions within the system. These findings yielded valuable design and optimization insights, with the goal of effectively reducing conducted EMI emissions in the three-level ANPC inverter system.
