Modeling and Simulation of Fuzzy Logic and PID-controlled Bidirectional DC-DC Converters for G2V/V2V Electric Vehicle Charging Systems Using MATLAB/Simulink
This paper presents the modeling and simulation of fuzzy logic and PID-controlled bidirectional DC-DC converters used for Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. The objective is to ensure efficient energy transfer between the grid and EVs by maintaining a stable voltage and current while enabling bidirectional power flow. The proposed system uses a modular two-level bidirectional AC-DC converter with control strategies based on fuzzy logic and PID controllers. Simulations conducted using MATLAB/Simulink demonstrate the effectiveness of the system in both G2V and V2G modes, highlighting its ability to maintain balanced power grid currents, enhance energy efficiency, and reduce user costs associated with charging. This study provides important details on how to include bidirectional charging systems into EV charging infrastructure, and increase energy efficiency and reduce expenses for EV owners. This research provides a valuable solution for transportation infrastructure to reduce emissions. The simulations perform better in performance, such as high-power factor correction (PFC), and both voltage and current Total Harmonic Distortions (THD kept below 5%that indicates both PID and fuzzy controllers effectively regulate power exchange between the grid and the vehicle.
