An Integrated Multi-Port Shore to Ship Charging System for Flexible Vessel Accommodation and Grid Interconnection

This paper proposes an integrated multi-port shore-to-ship charging (S2SC) system designed for heterogeneous electric vessels, enabling flexible vessel-grid interconnectionand power flow dispatching. The proposed architecture features hybrid AC/DC charging interfaces and multi-stage power converters, enabling complementary grid resources interconnection, load fluctuation mitigation, renewable energy sources (RESs) accommodation, and network loss reduction.A multi-mode operation strategy is introduced for this novel system. The probabilistic distribution models for wind, photovoltaic, and load profiles are constructed using historical operational data. Scenario generation and reduction techniques are subsequently applied to derive representative port operational scenarios, with typical daily profiles selected for renewable energy accommodation rate analysis. Comprehensive case studies demonstrate that the proposed S2SC architecture with multimode operation strategy could effectively improve the utilization rates of RESs and satisfy the charging demand of electric vessels.

Abstract

This paper proposes an integrated multi-port shore-to-ship charging (S2SC) system designed for heterogeneous electric vessels, enabling flexible vessel-grid interconnectionand power flow dispatching. The proposed architecture features hybrid AC/DC charging interfaces and multi-stage power converters, enabling complementary grid resources interconnection, load fluctuation mitigation, renewable energy sources (RESs) accommodation, and network loss reduction.A multi-mode operation strategy is introduced for this novel system. The probabilistic distribution models for wind, photovoltaic, and load profiles are constructed using historical operational data. Scenario generation and reduction techniques are subsequently applied to derive representative port operational scenarios, with typical daily profiles selected for renewable energy accommodation rate analysis. Comprehensive case studies demonstrate that the proposed S2SC architecture with multimode operation strategy could effectively improve the utilization rates of RESs and satisfy the charging demand of electric vessels.
