Inductance Analysis of Surface-Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines Using Mesh-Based Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC)
This paper proposes a novel method for calculating winding inductances in electrical machines using mesh-based magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC). In the proposed framework, the inductances of individual single-turn coils are first computed using mesh-based MEC models, followed by detailed derivation of composing winding inductances using single-turn inductances. The method is applied to a 4 -pole 6 -slot permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM), demonstrating excellent agreement between airgap inductances, slot leakage inductances calculated by MEC and 2D finite element analysis (FEA) results. A distinctive advantage of this approach is its efficiency in calculating inductances of various winding configurations by changing electric circuit configuration instead of calculating slot flux leakage repeatedly. This inherent feature establishes the proposed methodology as a powerful tool for optimal winding design.
