Impact of bipolar corona charger parameters on electrostatic charging of polydisperse aerosols
The role of electrostatic forces in enhancing air filtration performance is no longer in doubt within the scientific community. However, this topic continues to attract considerable research interest, due to its impact on the protection of human health and the environment. Despite advances, there are still a number of ambiguities in the understanding of electrostatic interaction mechanisms between suspended particles and filter media fibers. When addressing the matter of these interactions in the filtration field, which are mainly governed by Coulomb, dielectrophoretic and image forces, it appears that the electric charge of particles is a key factor in the amplification of these phenomena. In this study, our objective is to control the electrostatic charge of particles for three different cases: neutralization, positive and negative charging, using a bipolar corona charger.
