Steve Garrett at UCLA

Steve Garrett was a graduate student in the Physics Department at UCLA when I was a postdoc there. Steve was a brilliant experimentalist, and well knew he was lucky to be learning from a leading acoustician, Isadore Rudnick. Because nearby Hollywood had a lasting influence, this talk will have three episodes. E1. The mystery of the Peruvian whistling bottles. E2. Steve speaks (in “The Unusual Properties of Liquid Helium"). E3. Two-for-one: How Steve's Ph.D. research launched two careers.

Abstract

Steve Garrett was a graduate student in the Physics Department at UCLA when I was a postdoc there. Steve was a brilliant experimentalist, and well knew he was lucky to be learning from a leading acoustician, Isadore Rudnick. Because nearby Hollywood had a lasting influence, this talk will have three episodes. E1. The mystery of the Peruvian whistling bottles. E2. Steve speaks (in “The Unusual Properties of Liquid Helium"). E3. Two-for-one: How Steve's Ph.D. research launched two careers.
