Two dimensional monopulse angle estimator by joint iteration
Angle estimate by amplitude comparison monopulse radar is a widely used technique. In monopulse radar, the elevation and azimuth are usually estimated independently, in other words, the elevation angle is estimated by ratio of elevation difference channel and sum channel, while the azimuth angle is estimated by ratio of azimuth difference channel and sum channel. In fact, the azimuth ratio at different elevation varies slightly. Similarly, the elevation at different azimuth varies. When the targets depart from boresight, the phenomenon is more pronounced, so the angle estimator deteriorates. In this paper, a joint azimuth and elevation estimator in monopulse radar by iteration is presented. The initial azimuth and elevation angle is first estimated independently by classical methods, then the elevation is used to modify the azimuth estimator, and the azimuth is used to modify the elevation estimator. Through a few iterations, both angles converge, which are more accurate than the initial estimate values.
