Study of transition methods for timing schemes considering real-time flow rates

To address the instability in signal durations and traffic flow disorganization during timing scheme transitions, this paper proposes a transition method based on the trend of signal durations and traffic flow before and after the green wave-controlled section. Using VISSIM simulation software, combined with its COM interface and Python for secondary development, a model of an arterial green wave road section with multiple intersections is constructed. The model simulates all-day traffic under various flow conditions. Key evaluation metrics, including green wave bandwidth, overall delay, and number of stops, are used to analyze simulation results under different timing schemes. The study shows that a combined timing scheme, accounting for flow changes, better adapts to real-time traffic conditions, significantly improving traffic flow and alleviating congestion.
