A power control method for UAV data links based on propagation loss model

The UAV data link is one of the important components of the UAV system. During the design of the UAV data link, power control is an effective means to reduce the mutual interference between the data link equipment and other frequency-using equipment, enhance the compatibility of multiple communication systems in the same area, and at the same time improve the energy utilization efficiency of the system. Aiming at the power control problem in the design of UAV data link systems, this paper refers to the ITU-R P.528 propagation loss model to calculate the link propagation loss from three aspects: free-space loss, atmospheric absorption loss, and variability loss. It obtains the general relationship between the attenuation values of the three types of losses and parameters such as frequency, communication distance, and terminal height under the line-of-sight condition. Meanwhile, combining with parameters such as the transmission power and antenna gain, it can obtain more accurate link level estimation results in real-time, thereby realizing closed-loop control of the transmission power. Based on the power control method proposed in this paper, the power control of a typical application scenario of a UAV is analyzed and calculated. The results show that compared with the calculation results of traditional loss models, the method used in this paper can obtain more accurate link level calculation results, and thus more accurate power control can be realized. This has important reference significance for the design and development of UAV data link.
