Comparison of Hysteresis and PWM Current Control for Switched Reluctance Motor using Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization
The Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is inherently prone to high torque ripple and vibration due to its highly non-linear electromagnetic characteristics, limiting its suitability for high-performance applications. This study focuses on optimizing controller parameters and commutation angles using the Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) algorithm to improve motor efficiency and reduce torque ripple. A comparative analysis of Pulse Width Modulation Current Control (PWMCC) and Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) was performed for a 4-phase 8/6 SRM using MATLAB/Simulink simulations. The findings emphasize the importance of optimizing commutation instants of phase excitation in SRMs and demonstrate the advantages of PWMCC over HCC.
