Harnessing Blockchain: a Framework for Sustainable Reverse Supply Chain Optimization
Vehicle recalls in the UK have surged in recent years, necessitating efficient and secure management of safety concerns by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) in partnership with manufacturers. The DVSA currently relies on traditional centralized databases to manage reverse supply chains. However, these systems encounter significant challenges, including limited scalability, inadequate security, lack of transparency, and inefficient real-time data integration. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a blockchainbased framework utilizing Hyperledger Fabric, augmented with advanced encryption techniques and the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) for secure and distributed data storage. Through a series of experiments, the proposed solution was rigorously validated for its security, scalability, and reliability. The results demonstrate that the framework achieves approximately 80 % performance improvement compared to existing non-blockchain systems. This enhanced performance underscores the solution's potential to seamlessly integrate with the DVSA's operational workflows, offering a robust and future-proof alternative to current practices.
