Current Evidence on the Association of Sleep Apnea and Temporomandibular Joint Disorders
EDITORIALfirst-onset TMD (median follow-up 2.8 years).Increased chances of OSA was found with higher incidence of first-onset TMD.A similar result was found in the case-control study, where increased chances of OSA was related with higher odds of chronic TMD.The currently available literature shows a positive correlation regarding the association between OSA and TMDs; however, the findings are not very conclusive.More organized research on OSA and TMDs is required to prove an association between OSA and TMDs.This would provide maximum benefit to patients suffering from these conditions, with the development of newer treatment protocols.
