Simple Electronic Frontend for Telemetric Sensors in a Smart Object Paradigm

In the Industry 4.0 paradigm, the use of new IT technologies allows a synergic relationship between humans and objects. In this frame, the design of aware and interconnected and thus Smart Objects (SO) is providing new and better information that can be integrated into a digital thread paradigm. In this case, the widespread use of sensors is a necessity that must be addressed by integrating wireless and batteryless sensors into every possible device. There are some situations that, to deploy this paradigm, require a huge use of sensors and sometimes they have to be wireless and batteryless sensors to solve some technical constraints. Among these, the telemetric sensors can be a valid solution to detect a plethora of physical quantities, unfortunately, the main difficulty of this approach is the ability to interface the sensor with a compact and simple frontend. In this work, a simple architecture for the measurement of the position of the resonance peak of a telemetric sensor is described, implemented and tested with an LC-based telemetric sensor. The measurement revealed a proper system behavior of up to 60 MHz with a measurement error of around 1% on the resonance peak position.
