Case Report of a Supraglottic Airway-Assisted Endotracheal Tube Exchange: A Novel Technique in a Difficult Neonatal Airway
As early as 1999, supraglottic airways (SGAs) were reported to be used in airway exchanges. However, this has not been described in pediatric practice, likely due to the smaller mouth openings of children. Here, we present a case of an airway exchange in a patient with a difficult airway that allowed continuous ventilation and optimal visualization. The existing endotracheal tube (ETT) was left in place, and an SGA was placed adjacent to it. The SGA was then used as a conduit for the delivery of a new ETT.
